The road over the Col des Montets reopens Saturday 12th January 2013 at 11:30 am.
The Col des Montets (1461m), route D1506, a road between the Chamonix valley in France and the Valais in Switzerland. The road is not suitable for Heavy Vehicles.
The rail tunnel under the Col, between Montroc and Le Buet, opens to traffic when the road is closed. Passage through the tunnel is regulated by traffic lights or Gendarmes, depending on the volume of vehicles.
In 2013, the tunnel is easier to negotiate that in previous years, as the rail lines are temporarily taken up for major works. Construction will resume in the spring. The rail service is scheduled to resume in late 2013.
