The Plan de l'Aiguille is the mid-station of the Aiguille du Midi. Situated at 2,310m it is in a beautiful setting high above Chamonix. Known locally for its' huge evening flights this site is usually very rewarding. Morning flights tend to be more mellow.
Take off tips: The take off is short but sufficient for the confident pilot. You must have good control of your wing as the winds can be strong in the afternoon. Read the signs (and follow) the signs about specific take-off details.
Directions: Take the Aiguille du Midi Cable Car in Chamonix to the mid-station. The cable car passes near to the take-off as it slows to enter the station. The take-off is west facing, ideal for evening flying. It is possible to launch directly opposite when there's a north wind.
Flight Details: After launch it is essential to "get up" to take full advantage of this special site.
Great Evening Flying:
High up in Chamonix! Magic evening flying is possible at Plan de l'Aiguille. 20-30km flights along the whole Massif du Mt Blanc. In the space of 2hours it is possible to traverse 11 glaciers to the end of the Chamonix valley. This is evening flying at its' best.
