Un alpiniste perd la vie en portant secours à 2 personnes à l’aiguille d’Argentière

One dead and two wounded. This Sunday, July 2, a group of mountaineers, composed of four women and two men, set out to climb the Aiguille d'Argentière. At midday, the attempt was cut short.

They were climbing in three pairs, with two people connected by a rope. Out of three two-man ropes. They were climbing a couloir, when the pair in last position took a fall of about 20 metres. From a pair above, a 62 year old Swiss climber detached and descended alone to help the pair who had fallen and sustained injuries.

During the descent, he lost control of his situation and fell, almost 300 metres. The fall had a fatal consequence.

The Chamonix High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM) has opened an investigation to determine the precise evolution of the accident.
