Meteo-France in Lyon has issued, Monday 21 November 2016, an orange weather alert warning of violent winds for the Savoie and Haute-Savoie, through-out the day.
Powerful autumn storm-force winds expected, requiring special vigilance. These strong winds can cause damage to property.
The end of this weather alert is scheduled Tuesday 22 November 2016, at 9 p.m.
According to Meteo-France, Lyon, the winds may reach up to 150 km/h in the high mountains, 110 to 120 km/h above 1000m of altitude. Also, in the high alpine valleys, the winds may reach up to 70 to 80 km/h.
The force of the wind will increase in the upcoming hours until late evening. The *Foehn is expected to effect the Chamonix Valley later in the day, but no ETA was provided by France Meteo.
*A föhn or foehn is a type of dry, warm, down-slope effect that occurs in the lee (downwind side) of a mountain range.
