The Montenvers footbridge is reopened to pedestrian traffic

The metal walkway is reopened.

Good news for those who had to take the diversion set up by the route de Cachat le Géant. From now on, it is once again very easy to reach the departure station of the mythical red cogwheel train from Chamonix town centre.

According to Le Dauphine, the Montenvers footbridge has been closed to the public for several months, for a structural problem which no longer guaranteed the safety conditions necessary for pedestrians to use it without danger.

The consolidation works were carried out by the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc

The municipality of Chamonix had therefore issued a closure order to allow the holding of reinforcement works carried out by the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc, delegate in charge of the management of this departmental work.

The SNCF also supervised the operation, which ended during the last week of February.
