From 16 March to 7 April 2023, closure of two trails:
- Closure of the access trail to the Mer de Glace via the ladders (ladders included), from the Montenvers panoramic restaurant.
- Closure of the access trail to the Grotto from the Mottets refreshment bar.
This spring 2023 continues the global renovation of more than 50 million euros of the Montenvers - Mer de Glace site. Consequently, a municipal order was issued by Eric Fournier, the mayor of Chamonix Mont Blanc, to prohibit access to these two trails.
A security measure taken to prevent pedestrians from venturing onto this high-altitude site which, despite the favorable opinions of the regional and national site commissions, is still not unanimous.
