Since 1997, the Brévent and the Flégère ski areas have been linked by a cable car. In 2000, the resorts formally joined to become Brévent-Flégère and now offers anyone a great day of diverse skiing with almost endless terrain.
La Flégère caters to almost all abilities of skiers. You can enjoy the numerous pistes as well as test out your off-piste skills with areas in close proximity to the piste. One of the most attractive aspects of Flegere is its south-facing position.
This mountain is often bathed in sunlight till the end of the day! The car park only has 100 or so spaces, so you should consider taking the Chamonix Bus.
A breathtaking panorama of the "roof" of Europe and its surrounding summits, the Flégère ski domain can be accessed from Chamonix Les Praz (3 km from Chamonix).
At the bottom of the ski area, there is a beginners area, which can be accessed on foot from Chamonix centre.
The Brévent/Flégère ski area offers a total of 56 km of slopes, serviced by a total of 17 lifts.
The winter sports area is situated between the elevations of 1,030 and 2,525 m (3,379 to 8,284 ft) and it offers pistes to everyone, regardless of their ski competences.
In 2006, a 6-person chair lift was built up to the Index creating much better access to some great on and off-piste skiing. A 4-person chair lift, La Trappe, was also recently built and has increased the rate from 1000 people per hour to 2400 per hour.
There is a 100 vehicle car park right in front of the lift at Les Praz. It can fill quickly so, arrive early or use the free bus service. All buses from Chamonix going north, up the valley towards Grands Montets, Argentière and Le Tour stop at Les Praz for La Flégère.
The Flégère cable car replaced by gondola in 2019
The Flégère cable car was inaugurated in March 1956 and, throughout the years, it became much more than a mean of transport.
When it was terminated 63 years later, the Flégère cable car had become an anthology of memories for many inhabitants of the Chamonix valley, and not only.
While the cable car had been iconic for the Chamonix valley, its huge popularity resulted in a few problems, among them the huge queues & prolonged waiting time for the guests.
In order to counteract the long queues and to increase the customers' comfort, the Flégère cable car was replaced by a modern gondola.
On 11th April 2018, a public meeting took place in Les Praz to present the project of replacement of the Flégère cable car by a gondola.
The new gondola was inaugurated on 14 December 2019, as planned and, despite the unfavourable weather, the inauguration day went smoothly and without any queues.
The numbers? 20.5 million euros were spent to have the Flégère gondola ready for the 2019/20 Chamonix ski season.
The new Flégère gondola offers 10 seats and a flow of around 2,000 people per hour, at a speed of 6 meters per second.

There are 3 black pistes, 7 red pistes, 2 blue pistes, 2 green pistes.
A black run goes down from La Flégère to Les Praz, although this is patrolled, it is not pisted. This is probably not the most difficult of black runs but it is very long. La Flégère offers some good off piste skiing, for example: combes Lachenal, Glieres, Crochues, etc. This is also a great place to go on a powder day. Grands Montets will draw all the crowds and most runs will be tracked out before noon but if you head to Flégère you can enjoy the powder without the long queues all day.
