STOP PRESS: Aiguille du Midi & Montenvers Mer de Glace will open
Chamonix.net is delighted to announce the re-opening of Chamonix’s emblematic tourist attractions during this next weekend, 16 and 17 May 2020 :
- The Aiguille du Midi cable car (beware the Vallée Blanche access ridge is no longer equipped & the “Step into the Void” is closed for the weekend of 16th & 17th May)
- The Train Montenvers - Mer de Glace rack & pinion railway (ONLY the train will run, lecture by glaciologist Luc Moreau at 10h & 15h30 during May weekends, the ice cave & access gondola will be closed).
Open Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th May
& for the Ascension long weekend,
Thursday 21st to Sunday 24th May 2020 inclusive
The opening of these installations will continue depending on the weather conditions & on public demand.

COVID-19 - Welcome & Information
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic & in compliance with the governmental sanitary regulations, our teams have deployed an experimental “Health & Safety” welcome system up to the standards demanded by visitors & staff alike :
- Thermal camera (to check your temperature)
- Hydro-Alcoholic solution
- Mask to be worn during all phases of the transport & in the confined waiting areas (Please come equipped)
- Transport specially adapted (limited numbers, distance between visitors, special circulation measures….)
- A full “Welcome & Safety” protocol for both visitors & staff
- Regular disinfection of lifts, trains & buildings
- Full information panels with instructions to be followed before & during the visit
