Yesterday, Monday 23 October 2023, because of the annual maintenance on the Aiguille du Midi facility, the town hall of Chamonix announced the closure of roads and side walks in town, walking trails up to the mid mountain and some high alpine mountaineering routes.
Annual maintenance on the Aiguille du Midi facility does not always require closures within the vicinity, but this year, the cable is being replaced. The closures are being implemented to provide the maintenance crews with unrestricted access and to protect the people from the outcome of any unforeseen event.
Needless to say, the Aiguille du Midi telepherique is closed until 15 December 2023.
CHAMONIX TO MID MOUNTAIN
Several trails are closed with immediate effect until 15 December 2023
The Plan de l'Aiguille trail via Grand Bois is closed.
The direct route to the Cascade du Dard and the route from the Grand Bois to the Cascade are both closed.
Access to the Pré du Rocher sector is closed. This is not the newly named and eponymous car park in the city centre.
IN CHAMONIX
From today, Tuesday 24 October 2024 until Fri 15 December 2023
"The paths linking the Grépon car park to the Plan de l'Aiguille are closed," confirms Damien Girardier, director of the Aiguille du Midi facility. "Simply put," he continued, "The area should be avoided.
It is important not to go under the cable car cables at any time.
Pulling a cable is a delicate operation, especially since it is done over a long length. It is unthinkable to be underneath."
MOUNTAINEERING ROUTE CLOSURES
For six weeks from Sunday 5 November 2023 until Friday 15 December 2023, on the north face of the Aiguille du Midi, the mountaineering routes shall be closed.
This includes the popular Frendo Spur and Mallory Couloir.
